New Year’s Eve always gets everybody in the mood to party, and for good reason — we’re welcoming a brand new year, which signifies a fresh start for us all. But for those of us who are not much of a partier and would rather ring in the new year in our most comfortable PJs, coming up with exciting celebration ideas can be challenging. Don’t worry, celebrating NYE at home doesn’t have to be boring. Here are a few ideas to get you started.
1. Have a Cocktail Party
An upside to staying home during NYE is you don’t have to wait in line for a drink. Make it fun by not just drinking beer straight out of the can. Stock up on some liquor and mixers, and learn how to prepare a few basic cocktails (or mocktails, if you don’t like alcoholic drinks) for the night.
2. Give Out New Year’s Resolution Cards
If you’re having a party at home, print out New Year’s Resolution cards and ask your friends and family to write down their resolutions for 2022. Make it a fun activity by inviting everyone to share their list after.
3. Have Lots of Tasty Snacks on Hand
If you’re not having a party and will just be spending the night on your own or with your partner, consider preparing snacks and appetizers that will last you until midnight instead of cooking big meals. Something like a charcuterie board made up of a variety of cheese, meat, and fruits paired with a glass of wine can instantly make the evening special.
4. Play Board Games
Pull out the board games and play until midnight with your partner, roommate, or the whole family. Whether it’s Monopoly, scrabble, or Twister, it’s a great way to bring out the laughs and make everyone have fun on NYE.
5. Have a Comedy Marathon
An at-home celebration of any occasion wouldn’t be complete without a good movie marathon, and NYE is the perfect night for watching funny movies back to back. Get your snacks and drinks ready for an evening of laughter.
6. Have a Dance Party
You don’t have to go to the club to bust out the moves! Turn down the lights, set up a disco ball, and play your favorite party tunes to dance on your own or with your closest friends.
7. Check In With Family
If you can’t celebrate NYE with your family, check in on them via Zoom or Facetime. Any holiday wouldn’t be the same without spending some time with the ones you love.
8. Have a Living Room Sleepover
While not as glamorous as staying in a hotel, there’s nothing like being with your friends, family, or partner while waiting for the new year and falling asleep together, leaving all your worries behind.
9. Pop a Bottle of Champagne
Get a bottle of champagne and save it for midnight.
10. Enjoy a New Year’s Day Brunch
New Year’s celebration doesn’t have to end at midnight. You can enjoy a quiet, relaxing brunch on the first morning of the new year with your loved ones.
